It goes without saying that today LinkedIn is one of the most powerful tools for job search whether you are a fresher or an experienced professional. So, are you making the best use of such a potential site? Here’re some tips to make your LinkedIn job search effective:-

1. Make an impressive headline:

Just below your name, is your LinkedIn headline which is the one visible when a recruiter searches you on the LinkedIn database. Choose a headline that says who you are and the skills you bring to the table. Your name, profile photo and headline are the ones that help the recruiter decide whether or not to dig further into your profile. So, make your headline count!

2.Follow the companies of your industry:

A very important thing to do in order to make your job search effective. Make a list of the companies where you would like to work and follow them on LinkedIn. Any new positions, new branch or any other news related to the company, you will be aware of everything. This information will not only help you in the job search but also provide assistance when talking to the hiring manager or to any employee who can refer you. If you haven’t done this yet, do it today!

3. Make your connection strong:

Try to connect to interesting and highly visible people. This can be a tough task to do but if done properly you have a chance. You can type terms like trainer, recruiter, speaker, expert and search on the search panel. This would provide you with a list of options. You can analyze and filter those who belong to your field and maybe find something relevant on the internet that the person has done. You can then send a genuine and thoughtful comment on the same. Try not to disturb the person if he/she ignores you. Remember, if you contact them, make yourself count so that they do not forget the next time you contact.

Also, try to connect with people who follow your interest. For example, you are a coder who is interested in pottery. Type on the search panel ceramic art, and you end up getting a person who is a coder from 5 years and is interested in pottery too. You can always send a message saying, “Another coder who is interested in ceramics. Interesting!” This way you will have something to start your conversation. These contacts can be very helpful in your job search as these people have some good connections and links in the business.

4. LinkedIn recommendations:

Trust me, it matters a lot. It adds to your credibility and gives points to the recruiter to consider you among the rest. Recommendations from your clients, seniors, peers, juniors enhance your profile and increase your chances of getting shortlisted. Recommendations from people with whom you have worked add a lot of weight to your profile. You can always request for a recommendation from your clients, colleagues, and seniors. All you need to know is manage them well for desired output.

5. Do not miss on the weak links:

You never know which connection of yours can help you when. So, grasp your weak links as well. Maybe the person who was once associated with a small start-up has just got an opportunity of senior management in an MNC. Remember, the reference does wonders in the job market.
