“Spring has sprung and bees are humming! We are having a party and we hope you are coming!” As soon as you see this email in your inbox you just can’t stop getting excited. This indeed is an opportunity to let loose and bond with your co-workers but there are certain things you need to keep in mind before heading to the party. Have fun in a way that you do not become a topic of mockery and discussion on Monday morning. Here are 5 tips that will clear all those doubts that comes to your mind before an office party.

1.AttireOffice parties is an opportunity to show your fun and festive side but it is very important to know what to wear. You don’t want your boss to say, ‘This is an office party for God’s sake. What are you wearing?’ and neither do you want to be ogled at. Keep in mind, an office party is an office event. Don’t wear anything you normally wouldn’t wear to office. The party may not take place during traditional work hours, but that doesn’t mean you should dress like you’re going to a nightclub. Very short dresses, tight-fitting clothes, low-cut tops, shorts, cut-off t-shirts, over sized belts, flip-flops or over sized jackets are a strict NO-NO. Try to dress appropriately and make the most of it.

2. Do not drink too much
Drink responsibly and remember to stay sober. Do not forget that you are with your work crowd so do not make a fun of yourself by drinking too much. Enjoy a glass of wine or a drink but beware that too much of it can besmirch your reputation. Always eat before you drink. Drinking empty stomach is calling trouble home. Remember the more drinks you have the possibility of doing something that you will regret later increases. Don’t knock down your credence just because of alcohol (You have worked hard for it!)

3.Socialize and mingle

This is the perfect time to network and socialize. Speak with colleagues you might not normally interact with on a daily basis. Acknowledge your co-workers, managers and the superiors in your organization. This is an excellent time to make your presence visible in a positive way. Don’t be scared to talk to your seniors about things outside of work such as the movies, hobbies, family, interests and yes! Pokemon Go!

4. Don’t look bored or over-excited

Do not frown, slouch or yawn. Try not to look bored or you are not liking the party is as bad as not showing up at all. Avoid it! On the other hand, do not try to be over excited or over energetic. Show your dance moves but do not go crazy. You have to face your colleagues and managers on Monday. I am sure you do not want to be the topic of discussion for all.

5. Attending is a must
Attending the office party is a must even if you don’t want to. It’s a great networking opportunity and a way to show your commitment to the company. It’s a good opportunity to meet your superiors in a casual environment and networking with new people. Both are great things for your career growth. Don’t miss it.
