There are five compulsory modules in the AMCAT Exam and here they are –
English
Number of questions – 18
Module Duration – 16 minutes
Why is it important?
The English module is the most crucial and indicates to the prospective recruiter your communication skills. It will help them assess, analytically, how much better you are than your peers. It is important if you are looking for client-facing roles like Marketing, Sales, Human Resources, and Consulting.
How to prepare?
The AMCAT exam syllabus for English module includes Vocabulary, Grammar, and Comprehension. These questions cannot be learned overnight and you will need to practise them at least six months in advance.

Quantitative Ability
Number of questions – 16
Module Duration – 18 minutes
Why is it important?
You might wonder why simple maths problems like speed and profit/loss are covered in the AMCAT exam or any other aptitude exam for that matter! However, the reason this is included because the recruiter wants to test your basic math skills that might be needed when you are sitting in front of a client.
To negotiate a deal as a sales person or convincing your foreign IT counterpart with project viability you need to be able to crunch numbers with ease.
How to prepare?
The AMCAT exam syllabus for Quantitative Ability module includes Basic Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Engineering Mathematics. Do note that Engineering mathematics is not applicable for non-tech students. This module can be prepared only by doing as many problems as you can!
Logical Ability
Number of questions – 14
Module Duration – 16 minutes

What they essentially mean is they need students who have common sense and can think of a problem logically without getting frustrated. They want to hire future leaders and this module of the AMCAT test will help assess your logical skills like understanding the problem objectively, finding the trends, loopholes, and giving a suitable answer.
How to prepare?
The AMCAT exam syllabus for this module includes Deductive Reasoning, Inductive Reasoning, and Abductive Reasoning. For this, you need to expose yourself to a variety of questions during AMCAT preparation. It won’t matter if you solve similar problems hundred times, you can do it! You need to solve a hundred type of problems to ace this module.
Aspiring Minds Personality Inventory (AMPI)
Number of questions – 90
Module Duration – 20 minutes
Why is it important?
This is the most critical module of all the compulsory modules in the AMCAT test. This is the module that sets apart AMCAT from other aptitude tests and the reason why top companies hire through AMCAT. This module gives insight into your personality and helps in understanding if you fit people-management roles.
How to prepare?
The AMCAT exam syllabus for this module is the five traits – Extraversion,
- Conscientiousness,
- Neuroticism,
- Openness to Experience, and
- Agreeableness.
The best part is you CANNOT prepare for the AMPI! It’s who you inherently are! The key is there are no right or wrong answers in this module, it’s just an analysis of whatever answers you give.
Information Gathering & Synthesis
Number of questions – 15
Module Duration – 20 minutes
Why is it important?
A lot of job roles today require candidates who pay attention to detail. This is because most jobs are done via software and unless you put in the right input you will not get the required output! So jobs like Data Analysis, Content Management, Health Care and Designing requires gathering of the right information and analysis it properly.
How to prepare?
The AMCAT exam syllabus for this exam includes Data Interpretation, Information Ordering, and Rule Based Selection and Locating Information. This is the toughest part of AMCAT preparation because you might not find the right textbooks or test papers for this segment.
You can refer to our sample papers to get an insight into how the questions are framed. However, the key is to focus on this module as the answers are always hidden in plain sight! Try to get similar questions from online forums and solve as many as you can!
Excel
(Compulsory only for Management Graduates)
Number of questions – 23
Module Duration – 20 minutes
Why is it important?
Most management students joke about how all they are required to do in their jobs is work on Excel spreadsheets! This is not far from the truth though! A lot of work and the magic of consultants and analysts happen in Excel spreadsheets. You need to understand all the shortcuts, formulae and the presentation on Excel to progress in your career.
How to prepare?
The AMCAT exam syllabus for this module includes MS Excel basics, Data analysis and presentation, and Advanced Excel like Macros. You will have to spend your time in working on excel, you can find sample case studies online.
