TPO's Desk: Success Tips for Job Aspirants!

Getting a job isn't easy. When you're competing with your batch-mates (as in case of campus placements), it's even tougher. But one piece of advice I would like to offer to students - they must remain stress-free throughout the entire placement process. Second, one must be clear with his/her basics. Let me put it this way - just like we need a passport to enter a foreign land, to get a job, one must first have a strong hold over the basic technical concepts.

Money does matter, but not so much during the initial years as it does during the later part of one's career. So, one should not look into aspects like pay-package, while choosing the first job. This is the world of specialists. Take time to specialize in your chosen field, money will chase you thereafter! As far as the interviews are concerned, prepare well for a few standard questions in the interview, for example, introduce yourself, where you want to see yourself after 5 years from now, why should we hire you, etc. Do not start searching for the answers during the interview - you might end up fumbling in front of the interviewer! You should think through and prepare your answers beforehand. Rest shall automatically fall into place!

Paradigms are shifting fast; gone are the days when companies sought plain technical skills. They now look forward to select candidates who are quick enough to learn the latest technology and can at the same time suggest new ideas. Hence, students must work towards building up higher order thinking skills. Personality can't be ruled out! Students must undergo a screening process that lets them and the faculty know their weak and strong areas.
