How To Face A Virtual Interview Process: The Do’s And Dont’s
Thanks to the age of digital advancement, there is no geographical barrier between the recruiter and the job seeker. Especially in times like this, where COVID-19 is slowly gripping the whole world.
To keep the recruitment process going the recruiters are now switching over to the virtual mode of interviews. A traditional interview consists of a face-to-face conversation between you and the recruiter who asses whether or not you are the ideal candidate for the job role. In-person interviews are still very popular amongst the recruiters. However, given the present circumstances, the recruiters are now using a new way to conduct job interviews, commonly knows as a video interview.
So, let find out more about this new emerging type of job interview and how you can prepare for it.
Virtual Job Interviews
A virtual job interview is commonly known as a video interview. It is conducted via video chat on either your phone or on your computer.
Since the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent lockdown, more and more interviewers are using video interviews as the primary method of hiring newer candidates. Through this medium of communication, the recruiter can easily connect with potential candidates without having to travel distances.
Also, it saves both time and money involved in the conventional, face-to-face job interviews. It also removes the geographical constraints associated with candidate screening.
Unlike a telephonic interview, a video interview gives the interviewer a better chance at assessing you and learn more about who you are and what you are bringing to the table.
When getting ready for a video interview you don’t have to worry about things such as travel time, interview location, or getting late. However, at the end of the day, this a job interview and not projecting a professional behaviour can tank your chances of getting the job.
How To Prepare For Virtual Job Interviews?
To ace any job interview, the most important thing is how well you prepare for it, no matter the medium of the interview.
Technicalogical preparation
There are a lot of video conferencing platforms available such as Skype, Facetime, Google Hangout and more. Ask the interviewer on which platform the interview will be conducted. Make sure, the software is downloaded and running on your preferred system before the scheduled interview.
Find out the name of the interviewer and the time of the interview to prepare everything in advance. Also, ask them who is supposed to call; you or the interviewer.
Body Language
Even though the video interview will happen at the comfort of your home, make no mistake, you still need to be professional.
Sit up straight, smile and keep the camera at eye level. In addition, speak clearly and keep your focus on the camera when talking. Conduct the interview in a room where you can’t hear outside noises as you might get distracted.
Clothing
Make sure that you are dressed properly for the job interview. Dress as you would for an in-person interview. For men, ironed shirt with combed hair and clean face, while women should wear a shirt with simple styled hair.
Your choice of clothing tells a lot about you and your personality. Therefore, make sure you look your best.
Trial Run
Before the actual video interview, make sure that the audio and the camera is properly functioning. There is nothing worse than finding these problems a few minutes before the scheduled interview.
These are some handy-dandy tips to help you prepare well for your virtual job interview and champion your video interview.
So, use this time well, register for AMCAT, receive interview offers, ace the video interviews and emerge as a winner after the pandemic scare is over.
Be confident, be prepared and stay safe. Best of luck!
