Featured AMCAT Module: ASP.Net

About the Module

The module on ASP.NET has been designed to assess candidates' understanding of basic concepts and methods in C# and architecture of .NET framework. This test covers all the major areas including classes and objects, data access components, constructors and destructors, navigation controls, exception handling, validation controls, architecture of .NET framework, components of .NET framework etc. The questions in this test are not just knowledge based such that a person who knows the right function in C# can excel in it, but it lays a lot of emphasis on application based, output based and error based questions.

The scenarios covered are a mix of both commonly used concepts as well as some not so commonly used concepts thereby giving a variety of questions with different difficulty levels. It will test a candidate's ability to think logically, develop the code, understand the code, predict the output and check for errors, if any. Thus, this module is suitable to assess candidates applying for Software Developer role in ASP.NET domain.

Tips to improve your coding skills!

  • Improve your Basics: A sound knowledge of concepts like .NET Framework Class Library, basic framework classes such as Systems.collections and System.Web would enable you to answer questions interviewers could possibly ask during the interviews. You should know the difference between assemblies and manifests as developers working on ASP.NET work on these entities very frequently. Convince the interviewers that you understand almost everything that's under the .NET hood.
  • Practice, practice & practice: Practice writing big programs. Try modifying the existing programs that have been written by others. It is hard to develop skills to understand a code without prior knowledge. Understanding a code is essential to bug it – and generally, one doesn't get to practice such codes to debug if one is writing programs from scratch.
  • Learn and Design: Accustom yourself to understand the problem domain. Analyse it, and try to create a map for the problem statement. A well-understood problem goes a long way to create a good code. You should also work closely with the end users – talk to them and understand their requirements and then develop the code.

On a similar note, learn from the problem domain; try to develop a code according to what the end users would expect from you than just what was asked to develop by you. So you can download Visual Web Developer and get started with .NET!
